UPGarda Hotels: history of hospitality since 1885 on Lake Garda
The history of a hotel can tell you a lot about the kind of hospitality you will find during your stay and that is why we decided to tell you ours.

Hotel Zanella
1889
We were born as an inn in Austria because this was indeed an Austrian territory in the 19th century. We got our first license as an inn in 1885.
Customs clearance was on the border with the Kingdom of Italy near Nago and our inn was on the main road to Lake Garda. We offered catering services, a few rooms to guests and fodder to their horses.

1896
In 1896 we took on the name "Gastaus zu den 2 Gänsen" ("The two geese tavern").
We have had very different people passing through us: from travelers with few and simple demands to high-ranking members of the Habsburg Court. For some as well as others, we are a place to feel welcomed in a friendly and familiar way, and where to taste our moscatello, produced by Girolamo Zanella himself, our ancestor.

1914-1922
During the First World War, Girolamo's son, Carlo Zanella, carried on and consolidated the tradition of hospitality. After the war, our "Gastaus zu den 2 Gänsen" became part of Italian territory. We then enlarged the structure by building two floors of rooms.
When the fascist regime came to power, foreign writings on signs were banned. So, our hotel took on the family name and became "Hotel Zanella". But we did not want to erase the symbol of our history of hospitality and so, you will find the two geese and other geese in a row above on the external facade till today.

1945
Unfortunately, after the Second World War, Hotel Zanella was partially destroyed. Despite this, a strong and tenacious will and the ability to use the few resources in the right way allowed us to start again. In fact, not only did we repair the serious damage to our hotel, we also expanded it. Rooms were created with the annexed services (optional at the time) and a third floor was built.
Our grandfather, Nino Zanella, then continued his adventure, helped first by his mother, and then by his wife. He also began to act as a consultant and interpreter for the first great German pioneers of tourism, having the good fortune to know multiple languages.

1985
In 1985 the hotel management passed to the hands of his daughter Sabine, who, together with her new family, completely renovated the hotel in 1999 thereby making it a 3-star hotel. The geese on the facade were restored to their splendor and some features that recall the roots of our hospitality were preserved.
2020
By early 2020 it was time to make a real UP GRADE FOR YOUR STAY, because today's art of hospitality cannot be separated from an increasingly welcoming environment.
17 rooms were renovated and enlarged with a style that is both vintage and modern at the same time and in addition, we are completing the wellness area with a heated outdoor whirlpool.
The name epOche HOTEL ZANELLA, with the inevitable reference to the GEESE, reminds us of our sense of belonging and love for hospitality, not learned today but inherited over time.

Hotel Olivo
In addition to Nago, Arco was also a popular destination for the Habsburg Court in the early 1900s. Indeed, it chose this town as its winter residence because of its microclimate, protected to the north by the mountains and mitigated by the presence of Lake Garda to the south. A position that has earned it a very long tourist tradition, now more than a century old. A walk through the historic village of "Stranfòra," up to the Castle, is an immersion in the past.
1892
In 1892 the Rondalli family built the building that would house the Hotel Olivo, to be used for the reception of “travelers”. It will be called “Villa Rondalli”, and from its opening begins a history of hospitality that continues through the two world wars and changing its name to today's Hotel Olivo.
2006
It was run by several families until it was taken over by ours in 2006.
The latest renovation, which took place in 2007, maintained the original style. Even in the furnishings, it brings back the charm of the Habsburg years, combining them with the most modern comforts and a small SPA.
